When choosing Mexico real estate for your retirement, there are many different areas from which you can choose. Besides simply a variety of high quality Mexico properties, the various areas also offer a distinct lifestyle to suit the tastes of different retirees.

The TOPMexicoRealEstate Network prepared a list of the 10 best places to retire in Mexico. Within these areas, there are a few main "styles" to choose from, which are are as follows.

Beachfront Resort Communities. These are some of Mexico's most famous retirement destinations, including Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Cancun and Playa del Carmen are a few examples. These areas offer beautiful beaches, international restaurants, expat bars, large-screen movie theaters, new malls, American-style stores like Walmart and Home Depot, professional golf courses and many of the other services retirees would be used to from back home.

Colonial. Mexico has many colonial cities, and a number of them combine their centuries-old charm with modern services in the newer areas of the city. Retirees in these areas can enjoy the romance of narrow old streets, and street musicians playing traditional music, while still having the comfort of being close to malls and larger stores. Examples include Merida, San Miguel de Allende or Morelia.

Beachfront "Off The Beaten Track." For those who prefer a quieter beachfront, with just a few neighbors around and nature behind them, there are excellent properties in places like Costa Maya or Campeche for low prices, where retirees can enjoy living a quieter lifestyle, while not being far from the basic services they need.

Small Lakefront Towns. With the success of the towns on the shore of Lake Chapala in central Mexico, retirees have also begun to notice other beautiful, traditional little towns overlooking large lakes. Towns like Ajijic, Valle de Bravo, and Patzcuaro offer retirees a very provincial, small town lifestyle, while still being only a short drive from one of Mexico's large cities (in each case, a major colonial city.)

The list of 10 best places includes several options from each of these, and outlines the specific benefits of each location. Retirees will find that Mexico is in fact, not one culture and style, but a combination of several, which all have their own strengths. Which is the best choice between these? That comes down to personal taste ...
