One of the advantages of buying Playa del Carmen real estate is the lifestyle which the surrounding community and cities offer. An important part of this lifestyle are the many parks and sports facilities within short walking distance in most communities.

While owning Playa del Carmen property has become a favorite for North Americans largely due to the soft, sandy beaches and the beautiful turquoise Caribbean, both developers and the municipal government have also worked hard to make green space and park areas an integrated part of the city, in all areas.

One of the most important examples is Playacar, the area's original upscale gated golf community, located just north of downtown. Playa del Carmen homes as well as condos in this community enjoy shaded tree-lined roads and many green areas, including ancient Mayan ruins which are the original ancient site of Playa del Carmen. A bike trail runs parallel to the main road, which circles the golf course in a large loop.

Even outside of gated communities, however, residents enjoy easy walking distance to little parks and areas to enjoy exercise and sports. Parks include trees, playgrounds and benches for relaxation, and there are a number of small sports areas, perfect for a game of basketball or soccer - great for kids and adults alike. There are also 3 large sports complexes, one downtown, one in the southwest of the city, the other in the northwest - a very short drive from one of the most exciting up-and-coming upscale areas near the beach.

The number of parks and sports facilities is also continually increasing; recently a total investment of over 1 million USD (12.6 million pesos) was invested from local and federal sources in various new subdivisions of the city. Most communities include numerous little parks, within easy walking distance of each other.

One of the new parks includes a soccer field with synthetic grass, bleachers, lighting, a multipurpose shaded area (a Mayan "palapa" with a thatched roof), playgrounds, walkways, trash cans and a central "plaza."

Another community has recently received an ecological park which is still in its first stage, already including many of the same features such as green areas, a palapa, a soccer field with synthetic grass, playgrounds, walkways, lighting, bleachers, trash containers and benches.

In addition to promoting a healthier lifestyle (which goes hand in hand in Mexico to reduce health care costs,) the parks help develop Playa's relaxing atmosphere and increase property values of nearby homes.
