If you are considering a Mexico retirement community you will already know that you have many excellent locations to choose from; among these, Playa del Carmen is one of top choices, which is why more and more retirees are choosing to buy a Playa del Carmen condos or home.

Playa del Carmen, located just an hour south of Cancun, offers many benefits for retirement including:

Beaches – The Riviera Maya, of which Playa del Carmen is the heart, offers wide beaches, covered with soft, white sand, and the beautiful, turquoise water of the Caribbean Sea. Most travellers who have seen other beachfront destinations name Playa del Carmen's beaches as unquestionably the most beautiful. Playa del Carmen homes and condos can be found on the beachfront, or a walk away for accessible prices.

Shopping – Although still a very small city, Playa del Carmen has increased considerably in the number of shopping options, including 2 new modern malls, (with movies in English,) 2 Walmarts and 6 other similar stores, a Sam's, many restaurants, and a good selection of upscale shopping in the nice pedestrian plaza along the beachfront (Fifth Avenue.)

Warm Weather – The average temperature for the year is around 75º. Cold winter nights may get as low as 65º. For those who are tired of the snow, there couldn't be a better choice. The weather is idea for visiting the beach, playing golf – there are 8 professional courses in the area – travelling, gardening and much more.

Restaurants and Bars – In addition to the traditional Mexican tacos and quesadillas, there are good restaurants from all over the world, including Italian, Argentinean, Thai, and even good old-fashioned American burgers. There are also a number of places to enjoy a good drink with friends.

Attractions and Sites – Retirement often opens up opportunities to take time to see new things, and travel a little more. Nearby, there are many nature- and culture-focused theme parks, Mayan pyramids, boat tours, diving or fishing tours, wildlife reserves, and old colonial cities. In addition, the Cancun International Airport, which is less than an hour away, offers easy travel to many other parts of Mexico, as well as South America and Europe.

Small Town, European Atmosphere – Next to Americans, the largest group in Playa del Carmen is Italians. These have certainly left their mark on the city's atmosphere, which has low-rise buildings, narrow downtown roads, and a distinct European flavor.

Large Expat Community – Because of these very benefits, Playa del Carmen has been chosen as home by at least 10,000 Americans, many of whom are also retired. There will be no lack of neighbors from back home to enjoy all of these benefits with.
