In Cancun and the beachfront areas running south in the area known as the Riviera Maya, golf has become key element in both tourism and lifestyle for expats, and the area's Golf Association is planning to promote this even more; Mexico beachfront for sale and other real estate in the area has much to benefit from an increase in golf culture.

According to the Golf Association of the Mexican Caribbean, Cancun and the Riviera Maya have become the best destination for this sport in Mexico, where more than 200,000 rounds are played annually. It generates an economic benefit estimated at $30 million dollars.

To move to Cancun and the Riviera Maya and Mexico's top destinations for golf tourism, the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) will participate for the fifth consecutive year at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, to be held from 23 to 27 this month, about 30 minutes south of Cancun.

For the Convention and Visitors Bureau, it is increasingly important to capture and promote important events as the Mayakoba Golf Classic and maintain ongoing campaigns to spread the word about the natural beauty of the Mexican Caribbean and the quality of its 13 professional golf courses built by famous designers such as Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Robert Trent Jones Jr., PB Dye, Tom Fazio, Tom Weiskopf and Robert von Hagge. In short, the goal is to promote the high quality which already exists.

For those buying Mexico property in Cancun, this kind of promotion presents several benefits including:

  • Increasing property value, from an increasingly upscale image brought by golf tourism

  • New golf courses; as golf continues to grow in the area, developers will invest in building new golf courses, designed by famous professionals

  • New property options; golf course development is almost always accompanied by upscale residential gated communities. Numerous new golf developments in the area also offer excellent Cancun land for sale.

In the case of Cancún, 50% of golf tourism is from the United States, 30% from Mexico itself and 20% from Europe and South America. In the case of American tourists, most of the players come from California, New York, Florida, Texas, Illinois, New Jersey and Minnesota.

The Mayakoba Golf Classic will bring together leading figures from national and international courses, including Mexican golfer Lorena Ochoa, who is the four-time winner of the Player of the Year of the LPGA.
