When you first begin considering the possibility of buying real estate in Mexico, you may wish to consider consulting a Mexico real estate blog or other online resources to begin getting a feel for what's out there, and how the industry works.

One of the most important resources for clear, accurate and relevant information is a qualified and experienced Mexico broker. Through their experience combined with official training, they will be able to offer insight to a variety of situations that are not simply obvious to new buyers, or even most buyers with some experience. In a Mexico broker, you as a buyer will want to look for:

  • qualifications – certificates, degrees and membership in Mexico's professional real estate association (AMPI)

  • experience – years of work in the field, and many transactions

  • client satisfaction – ask for references and talk to past clients

Before, or even after making first contact with such a broker, a buyer will be able to have access to excellent resources through their blog, which usually offer news about deals, new developments, new services within given areas, economic and market updates and lifestyle in Mexico. While a good real estate blog will most certainly include spotlight developments and excellent deals on properties, it will not be focused solely on sales of properties, but will offer posts on a variety of topics to give you a complete picture of the buying process as well as life in Mexico.

Another resource which leading online real estate networks are offering is a "Q & A" section which allows you to ask a real estate question and review answers from a panel of experts, usually including several brokers and agents, lawyers and others observing the real estate market.

In many cases, such blogs or Q & A services will help give you the background information you need to choose the broker and agent who will work best to meet your needs.

Other online services include e-mail updates for blogs, new listings and price reductions, complete price-reduction lists, brochures on leading developments, cost of living comparisons, and brochures about lifestyle and activities in given areas. Of course, there are also listings, including the standard pictures and descriptions; some websites have begun to include items such as videos, maps and even Google Street View, so you can take a self-guided virtual tour.

Each of these items will help you greatly in making starting to get a feel for what will suit your needs best before beginning the actual search and viewing process with your agent.
