Mexico’s Baja California area offers several excellent real estate locations.  Two of these are La Paz real estate, located directly on the peninsula, and Rocky Point real estate, located just off the peninsula where the Sea of Cortez, which separates the peninsula from the Mexican mainland almost touches the Arizona border.  The following is a summary of a few similarities and differences.

Travel to the U.S. by plane – This is a very attractive point about both locations; both have access to their own international airport, with close access to a busier international airport nearby.  In both cases, real estate owners can access their new home in Mexico in a very short time, as little as an hour, and never more than about 3 hours within North America.  Flights are also very well priced due to large amounts of tourism to both La Paz and Rocky Point.

Travel to the U.S. by car – For residents of many parts of the United States, especially the South-West, access to Baja California by car is very convenient and easy.  Rocky Point is only a few hours from Phoenix; for this reason it has also been nick-named “Arizona’s beachfront.”  A new highway has recently been built to connect Rocky Point more directly to California in the U.S. as well. Another reasonable drive down the shore of the Sea of Cortez through many beautiful towns and amazing landscapes of Baja California will bring drivers to La Paz.  Many residents prefer the relaxation of the drive down to these places.

Desert landscape – Rocky Point is purely beautiful desert landscape which merges into the wide, sandy beaches.  The community is an oasis of palms and comfortable life in the awe-inspiring surroundings.  La Paz combines desert landscape with mountains and some other terrain types.  Both enjoy beautiful views out over the Sea of Cortez.

Historic background – Historic background is a key difference between the two.  Although soundly within Mexican territory, Rocky Point was first discovered and named (as “Rocky Point”) by a British explorer.  Only later did the Mexican government translate the name to Puerto Penasco (Rocky Port,) and develop a Mexican community there.  Because if its proximity to Arizona, the area has had a long-standing history for vacationers from Phoenix and other cities in that state.

La Paz, on the other hand, was founded as a Spanish mission early after the Spanish conquest (almost 500 years ago.)  Remaining as a small town until recent times, the city retains its original flavor blended with modern convenience and beachfront luxury.
