In Playa del Carmen and the surrounding area known as the “Riviera Maya” there are many excellent and well-known areas to look for condos.  There are, however, some new areas, or newly trending areas that buyers may wish to take note of when searching for that great deal on a very nice Riviera Maya condo.  The following are a few of those areas.

Downtown – The South Half

The north half of downtown started to be developed during the nineties and took off during the boom of the 2000’s as an upscale area with nice condos, and a European atmosphere, and is the area most people would think of when they hear “downtown Playa del Carmen condos.”  The south half, on the other hand, was the original town which grew up around the original fishing village.  Until recently, it has retained its small-town image, which has been more “local” than “quaint.”  During the past couple of years, this has begun to change. Nice Riviera Maya condo complexes have been sprouting up alongside of boutique hotels, upscale restaurants and other modern development that suits Playa del Carmen’s more contemporary, European style which has been emerging.  These not only offer a walk-everywhere lifestyle (e.g. to the beach, to the quaint shops and restaurants of Fifth Avenue, to Walmart, and much more) but also many onsite amenities such as underground parking, rooftop pools and spas.

Just North of Town

The area just north of downtown (about 3 miles) has recently begun to advance in development.   High-end resort complexes and professionally designed golf courses have paved the way for new gated communities within comfortable walking distance of the beach.  These gated communities offer nice, well-designed condo complexes with pools and other amenities, as well as bike trails and plenty of green areas.  Generally speaking the walk or the bike ride to the beach is very pleasant.

The “Other Side” of the Highway

The Cancun-Playa del Carmen highway runs parallel to the beach, about 10 blocks back. While most buyers prefer to be on the beach side, usually within walking distance to the beach (within 5-6 blocks), there are a growing number of nice developments for very good prices on the other side of the highway.  These are near new shopping malls which offer an excellent range of services.  What’s more, the beach and the activity of downtown is only a 5-10 minute drive away.

All three of these areas are excellent choices for buyers to consider if they would like a nice, new condo, in an excellent, up-and-coming location for very good prices.  Buyers should talk to an agent about possibilities in a variety of areas.
