When you choose to buy your Playa del Carmen real estate, there are several items which you can look for to make sure you will be making the most of your experience living in a Playa del Carmen condo.   The following are items you can look for in location, the complex and the unit itself.   You may not need all of the items, but they are at least worth considering.

Location

  • Shopping/Services - This point depends a lot on your lifestyle preference; if you're a drive-everywhere sort of person then a residential gated community with a mall 5 minutes away would be convenient.   If you prefer to walk, then being in a central area near stores, restaurants and shops would be nice.

  • Nearby Development - In all cases, you will want to pay attention to what kind of development exists or is going in in the neighborhood.   This can be seen from a comfort point of view, with more emphasis on what's already there, or an investment point of view, where you are looking for changes that are just beginning.

  • Distance to the Beach - Not everyone needs to be right on the beach, but depending on your lifestyle preference, again, you will want easy beach access nearby.   All the beaches are beautiful, but the style of the beach is worth checking as well.   You might prefer hip with a club and live music, or natural surrounded by palms and jungle.

  • Golf Courses, etc. - Don't play golf?   That's fine, but living near a golf course increases the value of your home and may add rental potential.   If you do play golf, then it's that much better; Playa del Carmen is Latin America's top golf location.

Complex

  • Pool & Lounge Area - For days that you prefer to stay at home, it's nice to have a pool on site.   Comfortable lounge areas are also relaxing.

  • Green Space - This adds to the relaxation and visual appeal, and also helps keep the air cooler and fresher.

  • Gym, Spa, etc. - You may not need these in your complex, but if they are activities you do regularly it's convenient.   Downtown and in resorts there are gyms, spas and sports complexes readily available, so it's less necessary to have them in your complex.

  • Security - Playa del Carmen is very safe, so this could be anything from manned, gated entry, to a good lock, depending on your level of comfortable.

  • Parking - If you are a car owner, underground or shaded is often preferable.

Unit

  • Fixtures - Properties can come in any level of preparation from bare-bone units to fully equipped with marble, stainless steel and all appliances.   Some even come fully furnished.   Of course, having such a package included means you don't have to get it done yourself later on.

  • Storage & Closets - Ample closet space is nice to have.   Some condos in Playa del Carmen come with separate storage spaces for those who don't use their unit all year, and like to rent it out.

  • Fans, Air Conditioners - Although you're moving to Playa del Carmen to get away from the cold, there is a season when air conditioning is nice to have.   Ceiling fans are always comfortable.

  • Balcony/Terrace - These are almost a standard feature; after all, most people move here to enjoy the outdoors. There's nothing like sipping a coffee on your own balcony in the morning, watching the sunrise over the Caribbean.

The features you choose will depend on your needs and budget, but it is always worth asking.   Sometimes it's surprising what you can get for a very reasonable price!
