We’ve decided to go to the trouble for you of finding the 25 Top Beaches in the Riviera Maya!  We would have liked to put them in order from best of the best to last of the best, but unfortunately we just couldn’t choose!  So, here they are, not in any particular order.

- Sian Kaan, Tulum - This is Mother Nature's beach, in the middle of a huge biosphere reserve, one of the world's most biologically diverse places.  It offers miles of beaches, miles of nature, hours of relaxation.

- Xcacel Beach – Known for turtles and clear waters, it is a sanctuary where nature and man meet.  It is a virgin beach, hidden in the jungle, that you might miss if you don’t know where to look.

- Tulum North Beach – This cozy beach under mystical Mayan ruins on top of a cliff, offers the purest white sand and turquois water that has made the Riviera Maya so famous.  You can feel the Mayan spirit emerging from the sea.

- Shangri-la Beach – At the north end of Downtown Playa del Carmen offers a hip lifestyle, yoga, jazz and relaxation, right on the beach.  It’s a great place to enjoy a weekend with the family, or ride your bike to the beach!

- Xaman-Ha Beach – This beach is in Playacar, the area’s most upscale neighborhood, and a walk away from the Mayan ruins which marked the original site of the ancient Playa del Carmen, known as Xaman-Ha among the Mayans.

- Xcalacoco Beach – About 3 miles north of town near new resorts and gated communities, this beach is an excellent place to enjoy kite boarding & coral reef.  Here you can find Hotels, luxury condos and rustic huts – right on the Caribbean.

- Lighthouse Beach – El Faro, as it is known in Spanish, is downtown Playa del Carmen’s most famous landmark, near all the restaurants, shops and clubs.  It is also at the heart of the old-style town full of Mexican traditions and European flavor.

- Coco Beach – Coco beach is traditional, hip and romantic all at the same time!  It is also just at the north end of where downtown’s growing tourist district is just beginning to take root, making it Playa del Carmen's newest hip area.

- Grand Coral Beach – This is one of our 3 golf course beaches, especially notable since the golf course is probably a 5 minute walk from the sand of the beach.  It just out of downtown.

- Xpu-Ha Beach – This is a great beach with great food.  Located between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, it is also a great place to go camping with the family.

- Bahia Principe – This is our second golf course beach, which offers a full 5-star resort lifestyle right on Tulum's beautiful beaches.

- Puerto Morelos – Puerto Morelos is a small town which has retained its very local character, with a quaint harbor where you can enjoy boating, fishing & small town relaxation.

- Colosio Beach – Until recently the area between downtown and the new resorts has been somewhat abandoned.  It is a great place to relax quietly a walk away from downtown, and is also one of the most important new up-and-coming beach areas.

- Puerto Aventuras – This marina and golf community is more like an upscale small town than a gated community.  It is a yacht owner’s dream, and has spectacular beachfront homes.

- The Reef Beach – The Reef is a boutique beach club also in Playacar, just a little further south of downtown.  You can walk there from the Playacar golf course.

- Akumal Beach – Akumal is a village just north of Tulum where conservation has become part of the local culture.  It is a great place to snorkel with the turtles in a natural setting, and enjoy local art and coffee.

- Sirenis Beach – This upscale resort has a particularly rugged stretch of the Caribbean Sea, combining comfort, nature and rugged beauty.  A nice residential community is nearby.

- Playa Paraiso – Playa Paraiso’s beach is quiet and secluded.  You can enjoy this quiet beach at a luxury resort to yourself – a great place to relax and re-connect.

- Constituyentes Beach – This beach is located at the street that defines the center of downtown Playa del Carmen.  It is close to EVERYTHING!

- Caleta Yal-Ku – Here you can snorkel with Caribbean fish in the world’s second longest coral reef, or enjoy a nice beach club, with thatched-roof huts.

- Halfmoon Bay – Halfmoon Bay is just north of Akumal, and is the perfect spot to spend the day snorkeling with your family in a calm bay.  There is a very relaxing beach club with great food.

- Mamitas Beach – This is perhaps the most famous beach downtown Playa with an upscale club and an annual jazz festival which brings live jazz right to the beach!

- Soliman Bay – This solitary turquoise bay has both virgin beaches and splendid homes.  It is great place for kayaking and snorkeling.

- Boca Paila – Boca Paila, on the road from Tulum to Sian Kaan, is a rustic corner of Paradise where you stay in a thatched-roof cabin without electricity!

- Mayakoba Beach – Very near this beach is El Camaleon, home of the Mayakoba Golf Classic, Latin America’s only PGA event, and the heart of Playa’s thriving golf culture.

Which is the best among these?  That depends on your taste.  You’ll have to visit to choose for yourself!
