A clear trend in recent years has been the appearance of a significant number of new developments in  Tulum real estate.  While some buyers have been taking the “just get your foot in the door” approach to investing in this booming market, as always its best to make a smart decision about your real estate investment in Tulum.  Some features to look for that are likely to pay off in the future include the following.

Close Beach Access – Along with the charming ruins up on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean, the item which has drawn the most attention to Tulum over the past decade or so is the beaches; if the beaches of the Riviera Maya on the whole are among the best in the world, these beaches are probably the best of the Riviera Maya.  For many travellers, they unquestionably hold the #1 spot among the favorites.  Buying close to these beaches not only offers a great lifestyle, but also excellent future value.

Proximity to Town Center – Tulum’s current town center is transforming from the sleepy jungle village that offered a few basic services to those visiting the ruins to a vibrant village with a distinct character of its own, retaining the feel of a small town in close contact with nature, but offering excellent restaurants and nice shopping areas.  Nice developments are available a walk away.

Protected Nature Nearby – Tulum is surrounded by the mystical Mayan jungle.  Yet it’s also true that the town is growing quickly.  Those who love nature need not worry; the town and new developments are taking special steps to preserve this nature and integrate it.  Yet for the very reasons that this is what makes Tulum unique, it’s worth looking for a property close to a protected area.

Services and Shopping Areas – Besides nearby amenities (golf courses, resorts, etc.) you might also consider the amenities being planned for the development/master development you are choosing.  Some include nice shopping and dining areas which will add value to the properties.

Distinct Style – “Luxury Eco” – As mentioned in the third point, the defining feature of Tulum’s emerging culture is nature and preservation.  This is being combined with modern luxury and comfortable living in a very unique way.  A development/complex/home which excels in this combination is likely to hold the highest future appeal and value.

When investing in Tulum, don’t be content with just getting your foot in the door; look for the features which will put you a step ahead.
