If you were to ask just about anyone about Mexico real estate on the Caribbean, the first names that will come to mind are Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum – the big boom towns which form Latin America’s most important tourism region.  These are great markets – lots of investment potential, excellent modern services, plenty of neighbors from back home.  Everyone knows about these places, and for those who like this, there should be no hesitation to buy in that area.

Yet, there’s a little secret that not too many people know about; this accounts for only half of the Mexican Caribbean.  It ends in the middle of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, where the road heading south from Tulum along the beach also ends.  If you were to travel along this road, you would certainly feel that this is the end of everything.

However, on the other side of the biosphere reserve there is an area known as Costa Maya (there is highway access going around and “behind” the reserve.)  Costa Maya real estate is an option almost always over looked, yet could offer high appeal to many buyers.  Let’s take a look at some of the appeal the area holds.

Lower Prices – Since fewer people know about Costa Maya, lots, condos and homes directly on the beachfront can be found for surprisingly low prices.

Fewer Tourists – The main sources of tourism is the cruises that arrive at the village of Mahahual.  For the most part, the area is very local, which is appealing for those who prefer to avoid the hustle and bustle of big tourist centers.

Small and Close-Knit Expat Community – You would probably be able to name the other expats!  The community is close-knit and supportive.

Very Quiet Lifestyle – All of this adds up to a very quiet lifestyle on the wide, beautiful beaches for which the Caribbean is famous.  The quiet relaxation and privacy of beachfront space to be found here is exceptional (at least at these prices!)

Untouched Nature – Since tourism and the towns have not grown, those who live here live in close contact with the area’s nature – lush, green jungle, exotic wildlife and awe-inspiring scenery.

Costa Maya is certainly the best kept secret in Mexico real estate.  It is easy to get to, yet still quiet and secluded.  Prices are low, and as a beachfront Paradise, it will not leave you disappointed!

After moving to Mahahual and building her own home, Loto became acutely aware of the issues that can arise, often complicated for non-fluent Spanish-speakers. She discovered that many people are not accustomed to the work styles in Mexico and become frustrated with the difficulty in finding reliable and trustworthy workers; Loto consequently decided to offer her services to other real estate buyers.
