While most people choose Mexico real estate for beachfront these days, another excellent option is that of lakefront cottages, such as those found in the Lake Chapala real estate or Morelia real estate areas.  This kind of real estate – mostly homes – has a unique charm of its own, compared both to beachfront options and to cottages back home.  Consider some of these features:

Mexican Charm

The towns on the shores of Lake Chapala and Lake Patzcuaro (near Morelia) are thoroughly Mexican.  This means that authentic Mexico food and handicrafts, for example can be found as daily items. This also means these items are very affordable.  Simply walking through the streets is a charm in itself, along narrow little cobble-stone roads with traditional little white homes lining them; these aren’t re-construction for tourists, they’re simply the way people live here, as their day to day life.

Tradition and History

These towns are sometimes even older then the Spanish conquest and have traditions that go back to their original pre-hispanic roots.  In addition to the handicrafts and food styles mentioned above, these include colorful festivals that take place throughout the year.  All are welcome to join in and celebrate together. Historic sites such as churches or homes of Mexican heroes can easily be found.

Beautiful Views

The views from lakefront cottages include the lake itself, the surrounding, forest-covered hills and the charming small towns, with church spires, red-tile roofs and quaint, colorful homes on rolling hills.  These views add something to life that cannot be replaced.  They are, of course, an important part of relaxation.

Very Relaxing Lifestyle

Here, the “Mexican” relaxation that we all imagine isn’t something people look for here as an escape; it’s simply something everyone does, all the time – a way of life.  It must be noted that this can be frustrating at first, since people don’t share our modern/urban rush to get everything done quickly; however, it rubs off on people with time, and after you get used to it, you’ll never want to go back.

Comfortable Climate

Beaches are great for those who love the hot sun.  These towns have a more moderate climate, ranging from comfortably warm summer days to slightly chilly winter nights – never really cold, but just chilly enough to put on a good fall jacket and put on a fire (yes – cottages can be found with fireplaces!)

These factors make lakefront towns in central Mexico the ideal place for many buyers.  What’s more, prices tend to be even lower here …
