When you decide to plan your Playa del Carmen retirement, there are probably many items you're already very excited about and looking forward to.   Here's a list of a few items I've found from talking to those already here.

Playa del Carmen Real Estate

Many retirees who choose Playa del Carmen will invest in a condo or home in this beautiful, European-style town, or one of the nearby gated communities.   For many of them, this property is far more beautiful, comfortable and convenient than what they could afford back home.

Beaches & Warm Weather

Playa del Carmen's beaches are among the world's most beautiful, with white sand and turquoise water, not to mention that they are also among the most enjoyable; the sand is soft and the water is warm.   Playa del Carmen is warm and sunny, even in the middle of “winter.”

Golf

The area has been named Latin America's golf capital, offering 10 excellent courses, many of which are professionally designed by legends such as Nick Price and Robert Trent Jones II.

Low Cost of Living

Besides the low cost of real estate, the cost of day to day life is also low in Playa del Carmen.   Everything from dining out to property taxes costs significantly less than in the U.S. or Canada.   For many retirees this makes the difference of being able to live comfortably without budget worries.

Modern Services

A broad range of modern services, including large, international stores and state-of-the-art hospitals, are available in Playa del Carmen.

Easy, Low-Cost Flights Home

Cancun's international airport is about 45 minutes away.       Flights to all major destinations within Canada and the U.S. leave regularly and are available at accessible prices - often surprisingly low!

Friendly, Welcoming People

The locals are glad to have Americans and Canadians in town, and welcome them in a friendly way, often helping out with adapting to a new culture.

A Large Community of Retirees

Playa del Carmen is home to an estimated 10,000 Americans, and many Canadians.   A significant number of these are retirees.   On top of that, many more retirees live in the area seasonally.   While the locals are friendly and welcoming, it's nice to have folks from back home around, especially as neighbors.

Many Great Trips and Outings

Mayan pyramids, diving in a coral reef, deep-sea fishing, a Caribbean island, an underwater museum and large nature-culture parks are among the many items within an hour's travel (or less) of Playa del Carmen.

Retirees who choose Playa del Carmen don't regret it!   If you are excited now, you'll only feel that much better about your choice as time goes on.
