Buying a Mexico home for sale is a wonderful experience.  However, to ensure that the process of buying your dream property is really a dream come true, you will want to be sure to make use of some accessible resources to buy safely.  Before starting the buying process, consider the following resources.

Real Estate Blog – A good blog written by experienced professionals covering topics such as lifestyle in Mexico, legalities of purchasing and market news will not only help prepare your life in a new country with news of events, expat stories and the like, but also offer you tips on how to avoid common pitfalls and be sure that the process for acquiring a property is carried out properly.

Free E-books – There are free Mexico real estate guides that can be downloaded in a few minutes from websites.  The books are written by experienced professionals and cover the basic topics needed to buy safely, such as Mexico’s “restricted zone,” agent requirements (or lack thereof) and contract types.  These books can be fairly straight-forward to read, but at the same time provide you with very essential information.

Articles, FAQs, etc. – Another good online source are articles in online magazines and FAQ pages.  Some will actually allow you to send a question which will later be posted with an answer.  The comment boxes in good blogs could also be a good place to post a question.  This is an ideal companion to the e-book; after reading, you will certainly have specific questions based on your needs/situation and you can begin to fill in the blanks.

Past Buyers – Past buyers will usually not be experts on the process of buying in Mexico (depending on how often they’ve bought) but in all cases they can offer you a good idea of how they felt buying in a new country.  If they had good experiences, you can find out what they did to make the process smooth; if they encountered obstacles you can use one of the above information sources to find out how to avoid them.

A Professional Agent – Your agent will be your most valuable resource; you will want to make sure your agent is professional and qualified with certificates, degrees and membership in Mexico’s professional association for realtors (AMPI) and that they are experienced and dedicated to their clients; references will help on this side of things.

Using these resources, you will be able to buy your new home in Mexico with confidence that you are doing so safely!
