When I talk to Americans and Canadians about their preference between Mexico’s beachfront and Mexico’s colonial towns, many express a regret that they can’t have both.  Recently, I’ve found some excellent news; Playa del Carmen’s Hacienda del Rio Residential, a new development of homes, is combining both in a way that really offers the best of both worlds.  The following features make this possible.

Mexican Colonial Design

Although it is a new development in a modern city, the design of the homes is colonial, giving the community a taste of the “real Mexico” that can usually only be found by journeying hours into the interior of the country in places that expats may like to visit, but usually not live in.  The rich colors, heavy wood and general visual appeal of Mexico’s tradition architecture combines with completely modern homes where residents can enjoy high-speed internet, very good sealing windows and air conditioning while still being surrounded by Mexico’s classic charm.  Buyers can choose which colonial facade they like the best and have their home built with that style.

Near the Beach

Playa del Carmen’s Xcalacoco Beach is within a reasonable walking distance or short bike ride away.  The wide beach offers the soft, white sand and bright turquoise water which has made the area famous.  The beach’s style combines a rustic past and an old wooden pier with luxury modern resorts – a combination in a way reflecting that of Hacienda del Rio.

Closed Gated Community

This new complex is located within one of Playa del Carmen most exciting new gated communities, El Cielo.  This community offers 24-hour manned security, bike trails, plenty of green areas and a good number of upscale homes and condos to support property value; at the same time, since it is relatively new, prices of properties like Hacienda del Rio are still within reach.  The community is located within the “Diamond Zone,” which is emerging as one of Playa del Carmen’s most desirable areas to live in; it is located between two international-quality, professional golf courses and surrounded by luxury resorts.

River-style Pool

The complex itself is carefully designed for day to day comfort; one feature which is very unique is a river-style pool running through the backyards of each home.  There are also conventional swimming pools and plenty of green areas landscaped to complement the charming colonial style.

Finding a combination of Mexico’s luxury beachfront resort towns and the country’s rich colonial traditions is rare – especially at a price that the average buyer can afford.
