Typically, buyers searching for real estate will start with listings, look for a property they like in their price range, and – last of all – evaluate the neighborhood when they go to visit.  One interesting option is to do it the other way around; in the case of Mexico’s Caribbean Coast, you can start by searching for your favorite beaches in the Riviera Maya and then from there find the best nearby property.

Searching for Your Beach

As with the property search itself, there is always the issue that you are back in the U.S. or Canada, and the Riviera Maya is a 4 hour flight away.  However, there are webpages dedicated to showing you what each of the top beachfront areas in the region is like.  They include videos, photo galleries, maps and descriptions.  They will include enough info and images that you will quickly get a feel for whether it’s your style.  As with properties, it’s always worth picking a few different beaches that you like – after all, you haven’t seen them in person yet.

Find a Nearby Property

Some pages of this sort will actually include nearby property listings.  In any case, knowing the name and location of the beach, you can now go about finding properties in a community that suits your lifestyle; for example, if you enjoy ecology and natural beaches in a village setting, you might find Akumal real estate appealing; perhaps you prefer a beachfront home in an upscale marina and golf community, and you could search for Puerto Aventuras real estate.  If they beach pages don’t include properties, the maps that many listings now include will allow you to see how close they are to the beach areas you’ve chosen.

Contacting an Agent

Contacting an experienced, professional agent is always important.  Once you’ve let him know which beach areas you like and which property listings caught your attention (or even just your price range and style preference if you haven’t searched yet) they will be able to suggest more properties, search in person on your behalf and perhaps even suggest similar beach areas that you may have overlooked.

At this point you will be ready to visit the Riviera Maya, see your beaches in person, view the properties and begin the final stages of preparing to live in paradise!  Finally, the main reason people choose to live in the Riviera Maya is because of the beaches – so why not start your search with your favorite beach?
