If you’re walking around in the north end of downtown Playa del Carmen (also known as Little Italy), you’ll find beautiful tree-lined streets with quaint homes and very nice condos.  At one point, you’ll come to a nice stone wall, walling off what would otherwise be a couple of the usually small city blocks.  If you walk along the wall, you would find one entrance way – access to an underground parking as well as pedestrian and driving access on ground level, suggesting access to something exclusive.

If you are curious, you might go back a few paces on a side street to see if any item can be seen giving away.  What you would see, a little ways in, are the thatched roofs of shade areas and only a few signs of the upper balconies and terraces of luxury penthouse units.

This is Quadra Alea Condos.  It is very unique iné downtown Playa del Carmen in that it is the only development that is completely closed off and the only one that is so spacious.  Inside there are large green areas, nice pools and some of the area’s most luxury condos.  Besides the spa and gym, there is also underground parking so cars are kept out the sun, and given full security.

But what are the walls for if Playa del Carmen is one of the safest places in Mexico even safer than many parts of the U.S.?  Well, an extra level of security never hurts, but the main point is actually privacy.  Inside Quadra Alea you feel like you are hours from everything – no noise from cars, no crowds of tourists, no hustle and bustle, no hurrying – only space and complete relaxation.

The minute you step out the entrance onto the streets of Little Italy, you step out of this oasis of Paradise into … well, another Paradise.  The north end of Playa del Carmen’s downtown is a very pleasant place to walk around in, in a different sense.  There are Italian restaurants (not to mention many restaurants of many other international varieties,) cafes, art galleries, live music, good bars and interesting shops.  The area’s beautiful, sandy white beaches with the unique bright turquoise of the Caribbean water, along with the area’s trendiest beach club, is only a 5 – 10 minute walk away.  (The walk usually takes me about an hour, since I can’t help but to stop for coffee and chat with the regulars!)

Quadra Alea is truly an oasis of Paradise within Paradise.  Who could ask for more?
