Mexico real estate is full of many little secret gems that stand out a something with unique appeal.  One of these is the Ixtapa real estate area on the Pacific Coast, which combines a modern lifestyle with a quieter, less busy location.  The following are some of the strong points of Ixtapa.

Planned Resort Community

Like Cancun, Ixtapa is a planned resort community.  This means that it has well-laid out and wide streets with picturesque, tree-lined boulevards, modern infrastructure and all connections, like reliable electricity, water, phone and high-speed internet.  It also means an upscale setting with beautiful resorts and luxury hotels.  All of these items make life in a warm-weather, beachfront paradise comfortable and relaxing.  This is an ideal context for an expat to get to know another country for the first time!

Quieter Tourism Center

Unlike Cancun and other places, Ixtapa has remained quieter; while international tourism has definitely brought investment and modern services, it lacks the crowds of tourists and has retained even more of the classic Mexican slow pace of life and relaxation.  While it definitely can’t be described as “off the beaten track,” (too modern and well-planned) it is certainly a quiet town on the Mexican Pacific, where expats feel they really have gotten away from it all.

Lower Real Estate Prices

Because of this same factor, prices of real estate are relatively low.  Because of slower tourism, there has not yet been a real estate boom, driving prices upwards.  For this reason, nice condos directly overlooking the beachfront as well as condos or homes on the hillside with splendid views of the Pacific, of sunsets and the picturesque town itself can be found for surprisingly low prices.  It is also a “slower paced” market meaning that the search process is more relaxing.

Near Classic Mexican Town

While Ixtapa itself is an ideal combination of nature and the modern resort lifestyle, it is just around the corner (the beachfront corner, that is) from a classic Mexican town, Zihuatanejo.  This oceanfront fishing village has been around for ages, and maintains the strong traditions of the Mexican people.  It is an ideal place for expats to get to know the real, classic Mexico without going far from home (10 minutes.)

Since Ixtapa is not as busy as other tourist destinations, it is also less know; for many people this is appealing, and it certainly qualifies as a “hidden gem!”
