When you decide to look for a Mexico vacation rentals for your upcoming vacations on the Riviera Maya, what is the first item you take into consideration? Price? Size of the home or condo?   Amenities on site?   Activities nearby?   An approach you might consider taking is first finding the beach in the Riviera Maya that best suits your tastes, and then look for a nearby rental.

This approach runs against most people's intuition.   Most people will start by looking down a list of properties, looking at the combined features of each property (such as those mentioned above) and then choose the one that looks most appealing. (Incidentally, people will do the same when looking at buying Playa del Carmen real estate, and in fact they could consider the same approach described here!)

However, you need to ask yourself; what is the main motivation you have for choosing to vacation on the Riviera Maya?   If you are like 99% of vacationers, it will be the beaches.   The beaches are the epitome of beachfront beauty, with soft, white sand, turquoise water and palm trees all around.   Of course, the weather is always warm and sunny most of the time, making it that much easier to enjoy these beaches.   (The low prices in the area are another motivation, but even without low prices, these beaches still remain the most beautiful in the world!)

So why not start by finding the beach that you like best?   What many people who know the Riviera Maya just from one vacation or perhaps have only read about it is that there is a wide variety of styles in the beaches.   Downtown Playa del Carmen, for example, there are upscale beach clubs which host jazz festivals, and are only a short walk away from many restaurants, bars, shops, cafes, galleries and much more.

On the other hand, with a half-hour drive, there are fairly isolated beaches surrounded by virgin jungle, with a dirt road access and a highway side entrance marked only by an old wooden, thatched-roof hut and a worn out rope to “control” entrance.

Of course, there is everything in between.   Online, you can find pictures, maps, videos and descriptions. Once you know the beach you like, you can look specifically for nearby rentals, or even ask an agent to help you find the one that's right for you.
