Recently, Hacienda del Rio Residential, a new condo complex just north of Playa del Carmen, Mexico has just started publishing renderings and designs; one surprising part of the concept is that it takes a modern, beachfront development and gives it a colonial design!  But my question was, “Why?”  I talked to the designers a little and they came up with these answers.

Visual Appeal

People love the beauty of old buildings that reflect a time when visual appeal was as important as practicality – something we’ve lost in the modern world.  There’s a reason why Americans and Canadians love to visit the old cities in Europe; they just look so nice.  Yet, we all know that we don’t have all the way to Europe (or spend that much money!) to enjoy this; Mexico’s colonial cities offer charm that many visitors feel even outstrips those of the old continent.

But now, why not take this same visual appeal and add it to the comfort and convenience of a modern, spacious development with pools, green areas and modern utilities and infrastructure?  It’s actually much easier than trying to do things the other way around!

Ideal Atmosphere for Relaxation

Archways, talavera tiles, beautifully crafted stonework, stone bridges, large wooden beams, and many similar features are not only nice too look at, but they create the ideal atmosphere for relaxation; colonial architects knew how to make life relaxing for the upper class which commissioned their estates and mansions.

The good part is that you no longer need to be part of the upper class to afford this same relaxation, at least not with Hacienda del Rio!

Unique Concept

The design is unique in Playa del Carmen and well beyond.  Now and then you can find a single home downtown that someone has decided to adorn with nice tile work and an archway, but few property options combine the colonial concept to this extent with a beautiful, modern complex within an upscale gated community; even fewer (if any) are this affordable!

Of course, we can’t forget to mention that there is a private club for the community with a swim-up bar, and a “lazy-river” style pool running throughout the common area, past each of the homes.  One of the area’s top beaches is short bike ride away.

Again, why give a modern real estate complex a colonial design?  As these designers explained to me, it gives you the best of both worlds.
