When we talk about condos like Quadra Alea in Playa del Carmen, the points we usually talk about are the shopping and culture of Fifth Avenue and the trendy beaches.  Yet, another attractive side to this complex is the “local side” of downtown – a walk away, like everything else!

The most attractive point of Quadra Alea is the unique combination of a quiet, private gated community, with spacious green areas, pools a spa and a gym – something you’d expect to find in a gated community, out of town – with all the conveniences of downtown, only a walk away.

No one who knows Playa del Carmen needs to be told too much about the appeal of living a walk away from Fifth Avenue, with its boutiques, nice restaurants, good bars, art galleries and shops of every kind.  This is the heart of the Riviera Maya.

The same could be said about the beaches.  Playa del Carmen’s beaches have become famous worldwide for a good reason, offering soft, white sand and beautiful turquoise water that is always warm.  Like Fifth Avenue, several beach areas and some of the region’s most exciting beach clubs are only a walk away.

Yet, looking back from the beach, going the other way from Quadra Alea, there are some items worth considering as well.  For example, about a 10 minute walk away there is a quaint, local fruit and vegetable market that sells a variety of specialty imported items as well.  In the same building as the market, next to the sidewalk, there is a cafe that sells excellent smoothies, great breakfasts and tasty Mexican food.  The use the products from the market in making their food.

Along the way, there is an Italian goods shop that sells everything from coffee to real Italian tomato paste for those who enjoy making homemade sauce. They also sell hand-made fresh Italian pasta.  Espresso and tasty sandwiches (or real Italian past, of course!) are sold and can be enjoyed in a little sidewalk patio next to a quiet residential street. There are also a couple of Italian restaurants back in the residential area.  (Yes, there are enough Italians here that have lived here long enough so they can be called “locals”!)

Of course, we can’t forget the Mexican side of things.  There are excellent taco shops, and very nice bakeries that sell excellent pastries, good coffee and tasty cakes for any occasion (one of them specializes in filling things with delicious chocolate.)

Around the corner from these same items there are big supermarkets with a very large variety of goods from Mexico, North America and Europe.  There are banks, optometrists and dentists.

Basically it is a very, very comfortable and convenient part of town to live in.  Everything is within walking distance – whether you want the tourism activity of the beachfront and Fifth Avenue, or just a nice coffee with the locals.  Quadra Alea’s location makes it a combination of the best that Playa del Carmen has to offer, all from a very spacious and quiet private gated community.
