One of several strong points which Hacienda del Rio Residential in Playa del Carmen can boast is that it is a modern colonial design – that is, it is a modern condo development but visually takes most of its inspiration from Mexico’s classic colonial architecture.  People may doubt the viability of this idea; “If I want colonial, doesn’t it just make more sense to go for ‘real thing?’ ”  However, the idea of modern colonial design offers a unique combination of features making it more appealing in many ways than either original colonial or plain and simple modern.

Visual Appeal

Starting with the main attraction of colonial design, it’s almost goes without saying that colonial design is one of the most visually appealing styles out there.  Archways, talavera tiles, fountains, courtyards, colorfully painted facades with flowery bushes growing in front of them, decorative moulding, dark woodwork, stone walls – all of this and more is part of the beauty that architects and builders had perfected in its heyday.  Modern colonial design, like in Hacienda del Rio, offers all of this in a careful layout to offer the full visual appeal of centuries past.

Relaxation

Colonial design is much more than just something nice to look at; it actually adds something to the level of relaxation enjoyed by residents.  The whole atmosphere is one that was created for Latin America’s elite upper class to emphasize the relaxation and worry-free lifestyle they had the luxury of enjoying with a beautiful and comfortable atmosphere all around them.  The good thing is that now, people don’t have to be upper class to enjoy it – especially with the well-priced properties in Hacienda del Rio.

New – Reduced Maintenance

At the same time, there is a huge advantage to buying a new property over one that is a couple of centuries old; you can live in it immediately without any renovation or restoration, and the ongoing maintenance is much less.  So a new property with all the features of colonial design is an ideal balance.

Modern Services, Connections, etc.

Alongside this idea is the fact that a modern building with colonial design will include full electric, phone and plumbing fixtures, not to mention new high-efficiency windows.  While all of this can be installed into an old colonial, it’s not always easy, and it takes a time investment (admittedly, the cost is probably minimal.)  In any case, it’s just that much easier if the colonial-style home or condo has been built with these connections and fixtures.

Unique Market Appeal

While there are a good number of homes that include some colonial features (even in the Caribbean beachfront town of Playa del Carmen) it’s rare to find modern homes that use colonial design as their base concept.  This means that in the case of resale, a property in Hacienda del Rio Residential would hold unique and strong appeal.

So, yes, a modern colonial design makes sense; it combines the best of colonial design (visual appeal and relaxing atmosphere) with the best of new, modern construction (low maintenance, all utilities and services.) In fact, it makes so much sense that it’s surprising more people aren’t doing this!
