If you are looking for a beachfront lifestyle that you can afford, then there are two locations in Mexico that you definitely can't overlook … well, there are several, but two that I'd like to draw to your attention that are especially noteworthy - La Paz and Los Cabos, both in Mexico's Baja California Peninsula.

What They Share in Common

Located near the south end of the Peninsula, both La Paz and Los Cabos enjoy the area's beautiful desert landscapes, year-round warm and sunny weather and very wide, sandy beaches. Of course there is the Ocean, and the Sea of Cortez with all sorts of waterfront activities like sailing, diving, fishing or swimming.

Both also offer a very affordable cost of living. Everything from groceries to traveling is very affordable and high-quality, offering a comfortable lifestyle for the average American. The same is true about healthcare. Excellent, modern hospitals that meet international standards cost only a fraction of what similar service would cost in the United States.

Real estate is also very well-priced. Americans who would otherwise be limited to a modest home in a fairly uninteresting location could easily consider beautiful real estate for sale in Cabo, near the beach. (For examples of properties for sale in La Paz, check here.)

Some people like to use the word “cheap” for Mexico, but I always say it's too good to be cheap! This is especially true these days with the growing economy and rapid modernization.

But, of course, the communities have their distinct features as well.

Los Cabos

Los Cabos, which is the “collective” name for the two towns of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, is a well established international tourism and expat destination; walking in the streets you're as likely to find an American as you are a Mexican. This makes the change to a new culture and new way of life somewhat easier.

As an established tourist location, Los Cabos also offers more than a dozen excellent golf courses.

La Paz

La Paz, about 2 hours north of Los Cabos, offers a different kind of expat life; Americans and Canadians here have their favorite places to hang out, but there's also much more of a tendency to blend in with the local way of life. Those who prefer to experience Mexico more closely often prefer the situation found in La Paz.

These two beautiful beachfront locations are both excellent choices for Americans and Canadians looking for a warmer, sunnier and more affordable way of living!
