Besides the many benefits of living in Playa del Carmen, with its beautiful beaches, the shops and restaurants on the famous Fifth Avenue, modern infrastructure, and selection of shopping choices providing the best of both Mexican and international items, <Playa del Carmen Real Estate also provides the benefit of being close to many other cities, attractions and conveniences on the Yucatan Peninsula. Federal, state and municipal investment in infrastructure continually improve access and ease of travel from Playa del Carmen to these other destinations.

Playa del Carmen Real Estate owners already enjoy easy access to many other points of the Yucatana Peninsula, with an expressway running from the nearby Cancun (a 45 minute drive to the North) to the peninsula's largest city, Merida. Also a short drive to the south at Tulum, a highway runs to another colonial city, Valladolid, from there connecting to Merida as well. This highway is currently being widened at various points. Travel to both of these beautiful colonial cities is about to get easier. Plans are currently underway to build another expressway to Valladolid directly from Playa del Carmen. In addition to making travel faster to both of these cities, it will open up faster access to many of Yucatan's famous pyramid sites, including the world-famous Chichen Itza.

While Playa del Carmen Real Estate owners choose to live here because of the relaxed modern, beachfront lifestyle offered, the convenience of access the two other key attractions offered by Mexico - colonial cities and Mayan pyramid sites - is definitely a real benefit to living here.

Residents of the area will soon also be enjoying the convenience of several major infrastructure improvement programs. One of these is a set of three bridges in the highway running from Cancun to Tulum, over Playa del Carmen's three busiest intersections. These bridges will help improve traffic flow on these three main roads, as well as on the highway, making both day to day driving easier and, again, highway access to other places to visit.

The new highway improvements will also make trips to the international airport easier, which is just outside of Cancun, on the side of Playa del Carmen, about 45 minutes away. Recent expansion of the airport to include a second runway is allowing the airport to offer even more international flights, with many options and schedules available for visits back home. Also, a new international airport in the planning stages just outside of Tulum (in the other direction) will likewise be less than an hour away, and continue to offer more flight options.

Other nearby attractions include numerous "Ecoparks" which offer a rich combination of culture, history and nature in a very interactive setting; the largest of these parks also organize splendid festivals for Mexico's major holidays, which are a wonderful opportunity to get to know Mexico's culture for both visitors and residents.

While most Playa del Carmen residents are content to spend their time nearby, the continued improvement of the highway systems allows many exciting options for weekend trips to get to know the rich variety of activities and places to visit in the Yucatan area.
