100 years after the beginning of aviation in Mexico, Playa del Carmen Real Estate owners will be enjoying expanded service and convenience for air travel as never before. At the beginning of January, Mexico held celebrations for this historic event, in which officials reiterated their commitment to building a new international airport near Playa del Carmen; while this airport is directly within the Tulum Real Estate area, only 12 km from that town, this new service will mean significantly more options for real estate owners in Playa del Carmen, adding to the expanded service of the new second runway in the Cancun International Airport; both airports are within 45 minutes of Playa del Carmen.

During celebrations to commemorate 100 Years of Aviation in Mexico, a classic Stearman biplane, similar to the one flown on January 8, 1910 Alberto Braniff, hired to conduct the first flight in the Mexico. Since then Mexico's air service has grown to include 76 civilian airports, providing service for more than 55 million people annually, and in addition to transportation, the production of aerospace equipment.

In 2009, Mexico invested nearly 150 million dollars in airport infrastructure. To provide better service, the agency responsible for airport infrastructure in Mexico (SCT) has set very clear objectives of ensuring a fair and transparent service, legal certainty for participants in the industry, increasing competition and efficiency in the market, improving coverage and connectivity within Mexico and internationally, offering better prices and services to users, and, increasing investment in training and technology. This year it is expected that public and private investment in the airport sector will be over 200 million dollars.

What does all this mean for Playa del Carmen Real Estate buyers? New investment and new projects will mean continued increase of service and convenience for residents to travel back home, or invite visitors to come and join them in their beachfront paradise. In 2010 work will continue to carry out major projects, including new airports in the Riviera Maya (the tourism area centered around Playa del Carmen) and Palenque. Work will also be done on a renovation of Terminal 2 of the Cancun International Airport, and expansions and renovations in Merida, Oaxaca, Villahermosa and Tijuana.

The two projects which are most interesting those buying property in Playa del Carmen, are, of course the new international airport in Tulum, and the continued improvement of the Cancun airport. The Riviera Maya International Airport will be built with the Tulum real estate area, only 12 km away from the town, not only providing new convenience for the growing community of international real estate buyers in Tulum, but providing a second airport option for real estate owners in Playa del Carmen. This airport, like the Cancun International Airport, will be less than an hour away.

The continued improvements in Cancun will likewise benefit residents of Playa del Carmen; in October, 2009 a second runway was opened, as the first step in converting Cancun into an international air travel hub and business center. This will mean more direct, cheap flight options to the U.S., Canada and many other international destinations. Among other projects, the renovation of Terminal 2 will continue to add comfort and convenience to the new services available for real estate owners in Playa del Carmen.
