Non-Mexicans searching Cancun MLS listings, or planning to buy Playa del Carmen real estate have many factors to consider; property type, location, price range, proximity to services, style of the community. Playa del Carmen and Cancun Real Estate, as well as the communities nearby, provide a wide range of choices in each of these factors. One factor which real estate buyers will not need to spend much time thinking about during their buying process is safety for them and their families. In day to day life, no matter where we live, we take basic security precautions; but in Cancun or Playa del Carmen, resident can feel confident in the security and safety level of the communities where they buy property. In addition to a fairly healthy coexistence between the Mexican population and expat residents, a police force well trained to address the needs of international residents help to give real estate owners in the area peace of mind on a day to day level, and allowing new buyers to focus on the other aspects of their MLS listings during their property search.

With regard to public safety, the three levels of government are constantly making an effort not only to maintain the current level of safety, but to improve to meet the needs of growing communities. Currently, state and federal governments are working together to improve safety further for real estate owners in the state of Quintana Roo, which includes the Playa del Carmen and Cancun real estate areas. Advances in security are planned through continued attention to residents and everyday communication.

Along with the state congressman Carlos Joaquin, the Governor of Quintana Roo, Felix Gonzalez Canto, has been working to guarantee that safety is strengthened through community involvement. For both, an attentiveness to property owners has been a key point in building closeness and trust, and thus improving safety levels.

Current plans include further improving conditions for municipal police. While both Cancun and Playa del Carmen boast very professional police forces, which have been trained to address the needs of Mexicans and non-Mexicans alike, many speaking English, the government plans to offer better wages and further benefits for police, combined with more advanced levels of training, values and commitment, to continue moving the police force ahead in levels of professionalism. Plans also include a review of police academies and training centers to help reinforce a culture of service to the public in values like discipline, the honesty and accountability, avoiding negative values, such as corruption, which have given a bad reputation to police forces in many parts of Latin America.

While these plans do acknowledge room for improvement, real estate buyers in Cancun and Playa del Carmen can rest assured that the various levels of government are working together not only to maintain the current levels of safety, but to improve on them and upgrade the police force in a proactive manner, before safety becomes an issue in the area. As mentioned above, right now buyers can search MLS real estate in Cancun and Playa del Carmen with confidence in their day to day safety, leaving property buyers free to focus on issues such as the style of real estate they prefer, location, conveniences, events and activities nearby, and, certainly not least, they can imagine taking a pleasant walk through a safe community; in the near future, they won't need to imagine, but they can actually enjoy all of this with peace of mind.
