If you were visiting Times Square, what would you expect to see on the big screens? Maybe some ads from big names like Coca Cola or Procter and Gamble, maybe the “Cup Noodles” ad I saw up at the top of the NY Times building once. What about advertising for the beautiful beaches of Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya?
This is in fact the case during September 2010.
Since the Playa del Carmen real estate market is closely tied to the area’s successful tourism, this kind of large scale investment in promotion is a very good sign of the importance which the local and federal government places on promoting tourism and pumping funds into this area.

Likewise, this kind of large-scale promotion is excellent if you are buying a Playa del Carmen condo or home as an investment; increased tourism means higher demand for vacation rentals. On the other hand, more attention on the area also means that there will be more Americans choosing to live in Mexico for retirement or with their families. This means ongoing demand in the market, supporting Playa del Carmen’s healthy pattern of appreciation.
The ad is running with 25 spots aired daily, adding up to over 150 times a week, between 9:00 AM and 1:00 AM. The ads in Times Square started on September 7, 2010.
The ads are running on a screen next to the The New York Times building, with an estimated 1.5 million viewers per day, including both Americans and hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world, who often choose this place to take a classic souvenir photo. (I have one with that “Cup Noodles” ad behind me.)
So, if you’re at Times Square, look for the Riviera Maya add – or, if you want to do something much more relaxing, come down to Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya to begin planning your life on the beach!
