I will start today’s post with the same question as in yesterday’s post (Mexico Retirement – The Health Benefits of Relaxation): Have you ever wondered why despite being one of the most advanced countries in medical sciences, U.S. residences have so many health problems and such high medical bills? Yesterday, we looked at relaxation; today we will consider another lifestyle factor in Mexico retirement – physical activity, as well as some of the advantages of the healthcare available here.
Outdoor Lifestyle & Physical Activity
Besides the low cost of living, the top reason retirees choose Mexico real estate is for its warm, sunny climate. Plenty of sunshine makes people feel happier and better about life. It also makes people spend more time outside in contact with nature, enjoying clean, fresh air.
When the weather is warm all year round, it’s that much easier to spend time walking on the beach, riding bike, jogging, playing sports, going swimming, diving and doing physical activity in general – just about every day, all year round. No one needs to be told about the benefits of an active, outdoor lifestyle.
Fresh Food
There are many health benefits to eating fresh fruit and vegetables, especially when they are grown nearby and have had more time to ripen on the plant in sunshine. Mexico’s climate makes good local produce available all year round. Even “street food†and cafes offer fresh fruit bowls and natural smoothies. Especially in the coastal areas (and even in many central areas) a variety of fresh seafood is available. Of course, all of this is at excellent prices. It’s easier to eat healthy when healthy food is so readily available.
Modern Health Services
As we will see later in this same kit, Mexico has modernized considerably over the past 2 decades. For those who prefer to be indoors or find it easier to exercise if they have a routine schedule and place to do it, there are plenty of modern gyms, spas, yoga classes and similar services around.
Of course, even living the healthiest of lifestyles, we all get sick or need healthcare now and then. Mexico also has excellent clinics and modern hospitals that offer state-of-the-art equipment, top-of-the-line, international quality service and very good prices (usually 50-70% lower than in the U.S.)
Living in Mexico is good for people’s health in a variety of ways. Whether it’s daily relaxation as a way of life, more sunshine and outdoor activity, better health services or a combination of many factors, in most cases Americans and Canadians feel better and live healthier in Mexico.
