First and foremost – Happy Fourth of July! I hope you enjoy celebrating America where ever you may be – and if you want some tips on how to celebrate in Mexico, read this.
Today’s post is the first in a series to draw attention to some of the key aspects that make Hacienda del Rio such a charming choice – modern homes in Playa del Carmen that offer a distinct colonial style.
The features I share with you could also easily be applied to a home you’re building, or a renovation of a condo, for example.
Stone – So Plain Yet So Magical
Stone is such a basic item – it’s in the ground everywhere, seen every day. Yet, when included in a home, it adds a basic sense and charm of the very basics and purity of nature; it can add visual appeal, relaxation and some of the best climate control to be found!
The Beauty of StoneÂ
Both Mexico’s ancient peoples – the Aztecs and Mayans, among many others – used stone as their primary form of construction for important buildings, mostly because it was all they had. Half knowingly, and half unknowingly, they created a beauty that would last for centuries to come, and that we still enjoy to come.
Looking back to the elegance of colonial architecture, Americans living in Mexico can enjoy the same visual appeal both inside and outside their home by including stone walls, stone exterior finishes and exposed stone areas that contrast beautifully to the bright painted concrete and stucco that normally finishes walls in Mexico.
Hacienda del Rio has achieved this, including stone as one of several colonial features in its comfortable, modern homes.
