We all know that buying real estate is not a piece of cake, whether you do it in your home country or abroad, there are certain circumstances with a different amount of complexity throughout the process but, it is also fair to say this, is not rocket science either.
As scary and overwhelmed the idea of buying a property abroad, let´s say, south of the border, in the beautiful and paradisiac Riviera Maya, there are some tips that buyers should keep in mind in order to work with a real estate brokerage that will help their dream come true.
Some tips any future Mexico real estate buyer should keep in mind:
-Â Â Be Professional.
Over the years we´ve come across with all types of clients and helped them to make safe purchases along the way; but is also true that sometimes there are clients who –lacking of a better word- just aren´t very professional. Make sure you don´t abuse your agent´s time. We totally understand that once you land in paradise a.k.a. Riviera Maya, you want to make the most out of your limited time, but so is our time! And we want to make sure we can show you as many properties as possible during our tour dates so you make a very informed decision on your future purchase.
-Â Â Do your homework and choose your real estate brokerage wisely.
This basically sums up to which way you want to go because there are selling agents and there are buyer´s agents. Is a no brainer that selling agents are more focus on making the sale of a certain property and that buyer´s agent will look after your best interest. Therefore it is wise to look at different websites at home and ask yourself basic questions such as “Do I want to go with a selling agent based on the product or I´d better go for an agent that will take good care of me?†based on that, write a pros and cons list depending on what the brokerages you are reviewing offer you. Testimonial videos of past clients, e-books and kits are a good way of knowing how trustworthy an agent or real estate shop is.
– Â Credentials, Forms and Documentation.
Ask your agent about the same forms you need to fill and documentation you need to present as if you were in your home country. It is extremely important that your Mexico real estate agent has fluent English and/or Spanish language knowledge so you can avoid signing things you don´t understand. Also look after your brokerage´s credentials and whether its agents are active and certified members of A.M.P.I.
– Â What your expectations are on front of reality.
Every real estate agent and brokerage has its own way of doing things and a set of rules to move around the market in a specific area. Your agent should understand not only the industry but also will make you as many questions as he or she can in order to do the job. Being upfront about what you will find in the area and compare it to your expectations is not only healthy but also will settle the point where your wish list meets reality.
Whenever your case is, is always important that you listen to your agent´s and see what he or she can bring to the table, that way you will receive an honest and trustworthy advice and as a result, a happy and stress-free real estate transaction resulting in your absolutely fabulous home in Riviera Maya.
