The sounds of Jazz music will be in the air when the 13th Annual Riviera Maya Jazz Festival returns to Playa del Carmen. From  November 26-28 Mamita´s Beach Club will be the site of this annual event that draws music lovers to 3 nights of great jazz under the moonlit sky on the beach. And best of all it´s free!
Created in November 2002, the organizers have shown care each year to present a diverse lineup with representatives of the different styles of jazz as well as other related genres such as R & B, soul, hip hop and even cumbia. The festival is notable for the quality of the artists that it attracts to its´ stage to perform. Born in the midst of the changes from the first half of the 20th century, jazz is the free music genre par excellence.
Herbie Hancock, Dave Weckl and John Scofield jazz legends have passed through the stage of the festival, which also has had guests such as Earth, Wind & Fire, Chick Korea and Celso Piña.Â
Among those attending this year are:
Gino Vanelli
Since his debut release of Crazy Life, in 1973, Gino Vannelli has remained one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music. Born in Montreal in 1952, Vannelli grew up in a family headed by his cabaret-singing father and a ‘keen-eared’ mother. His musical skills as composer, poet, producer and arranger keep his career rising to greater heights.
Sheila E
This world-class drummer and percussionist had a trailblazing career that still knows no bounds. Her credits read like chapters in a music history book: Ringo Starr. Marvin Gaye, Prince, Beyonce, Herbie Hancock, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan and George Duke. Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter behind the seminal hits The Glamorous Life and A Love Bizarre. Sheila is a fearless multi-instrumentalist, as well as an Actress, Mentor, and Philanthropist.
Dweezil Zappa
Dweezil Zappa is from Los Angeles and is the son of Frank and Gail Zappa. His early years were spent largely away from the spotlight something of a rarity for the child of a celebrity, but perfect for cultivating a close relationship with his family.
