Quintana Roo has been designated the tourism giant of Mexico. These were the words used by state governor Roberto Borge Angulo at a recent press conference with The Yucatan Times. Borge said that “during the last five years, 51 new hotels have been constructed and 2016 is projected to have at least three more, allowing the region to reach nearly 90,000 hotel rooms.†He also added that ¨quality services, natural resources and vast history and culture¨ allows it to be an international benchmark.â€
According to The Yucatan Times, the state of Quintana Roo had 8.2 of the total 32.1 million visitors to Mexico last year. The State Secretary of Tourism for Quintana Roo, Raul Andrade Angulo, credits the tourism industry as ¨a powerful engine that drives social and economic development that generates better living standards for the welfare of Quintana Roo.¨
The Riviera Maya boasts 16 diamond hotels, natural resources and a history and culture that makes it unique to visitors worldwide. And arriving to Cancun is even easier now than before. New routes are constantly being added which keeps the Riviera Maya connected with the numerous countries, including the U.S., Canada, Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia, and a host of European nations such as Germany, Spain, France, Great Britain, and Italy. Add to this the various domestic flights in Mexico and the cruise ships and arrive constantly.
According to the Riviera Maya News, Quintana Roo, Cancun and the Riviera Maya can expect to see more than 39,000 tourists throughout the course of summer, making it among the most important times of the year for the industry. The Governor has commended President Enrique Pena Nieto for his work in promoting Cancun, Playa del Carmen and the state of Quintana Roo.Â
