Attention residents of the Riviera Maya! CFE has officially announced the end of the summer fare.
If you check out your CFE bill carefully, you will notice a note saying ‘apoyo gubernamental’ next to a figure. That figure is the amount of money the CFE covers during the summer months.
With the end of the government support, this means that electricity costs will increase. So we highly recommend to be extremely cautious in order to avoid a bad experience!
The summer fare applies in cities in which temperature exceeds an average of 30°C degrees. This rate has the intention to make electric services more affordable and pay a lower fee. Nonetheless, the CFE only applies this rate during summer, the hottest season when householders tend to turn on their air conditioning and therefore, generate a higher consumption of electricity.
Summer Fare is from February to August
Considering this, it’s important to know that in Mexico the summer season comprehends the 6 warmer consecutive months of the year, from February to August. Although, in some cities these months may vary. In these cases, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources is in charge of determining thermometric observations.
Since it’s now October and the summer heat is supposed to be gone in this season, we recommend you reducing the use of AC; the main cause of high consumption of electricity and surprising bills. However, leaving lights on is also a factor that can affect your final rate.
We invite you to consult and learn more about CFE fares on their official website. Or alternatively, calling 071 at any hour and any day of the week. Moreover, if you’re currently living in Playa del Carmen, you can visit CFE offices at Calle 22 norte and Calle 40.
Avoid any bad experience and reduce your electric consumption!
