It’s not always easy to call paradise home. Just like in any other city in the world, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Cancun are not picture perfect. Living here is definitely something we recommend. However, problems such as lack of focus on infrastructure in the cities can become a headache for anyone living there. Luckily, authorities are working on projects to improve the current infrastructure. They are building new roads and a light train to improve the growing traffic in the city.
Growth in Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen was a sleepy fishing village and a stop-over for travelers on their way to Cozumel. With time and economic growth, it has now become a destination itself, just as popular as Cancun. Its dramatic growth over the last few years caused it to be declared the fastest growing city in the world. Nevertheless, the development of the infrastructure to support this growth felt slow.
The increase in population and visitors has taken its toll and pushed the infrastructure to its limits. Roads were full of potholes. There was lack of access to a good internet connection in certain parts of the city. Moreover, there were no existing sewage services to cover the whole Playa del Carmen area.
Traffic jams are also quite common due to a lack of roads to serve so many people. These problems are still present, but the government is working into solving the most pressing issues. Over the last months, plenty of construction has been going on. Main roads like 125th Avenue and 38th Street are getting a makeover. New roads are also being built to connect the subdivisions near Ejido and other areas.
Infrastructure Technology
The 307 Highway has also faced traffic problems, and so the government has planned to introduce a light train to connect Cancun all the way down to Tulum. Once this train is in place, public transport and car usage will decrease.
The city of Cancun is also planning to start a SkyTrain to cover all the hotel zone, and they plan to build in a bridge to cross the Nichupte Lagoon. Locals and tourists will definitely benefit from all this as Cancun cannot hold the amount of people living in it, causing the major traffic jams.
It is exciting to think of the idea of a light train to connect the whole Riviera Maya and Cancun. This will have a profound impact in the lives of inhabitants. At Top Mexico Real Estate, we’re proud of the changes for the better that these cities are experiencing.
With these changes, it might be time for you to take the jump into moving to paradise and starting that life you’ve always dreamt of. There are plenty of properties available across Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Cancun for you to check out.
And remember, at Top Mexico Real Estate…we make it happen!
