The Riviera Maya Film Festival has announced the first selection of films for its´5th edition which is to be held from the 24 to 30 of June in Playa del Carmen and Cancun. At a press conference held at the Blue Parrot nightclub organizers of the festival discussed some of the locations, venues and dates in which the festival would take place.
Among the films announced so far are:
Eva Doesn´t Sleep
Set in 1952, the film stars Gael Garcia Bernal Eva Perón as an officer in Pinochet´s army who is tasked with finding the body of Eva Peron, which has inexplicably disappeared.
Maggie´s Plan
The story of Maggie, a determined and intelligent design teacher living in New York who opts for artificial insemination by a former fellow of the University to be the donor. The film stars Julianne Moore and Ethan Hawke
Miles Ahead
Don Cheadle wears many hats on this film working as actor, director, producer and writer to tell the true story of the trumpeter and composer Miles Davis. The film focuses on the five-year span where he stopped making music–known as his “silent period”–and his troubled marriage to Frances Taylor Davis.
I´ve Seen the Light
Tom Hiddleston plays Hank Williams, the country music legend of the United States whose legacy inspired the likes of Bob Dylan. The story covers six years of the life of Williams, since it began to stand out as a composer and performer, his stardom and their dramatic fall because of his addiction to alcohol and problems with various women, including his wife.
The RMFF is slowly establishing itself as a major cultural events in the Mexican Caribbean. Thanks to the world-class independent cinema and top international talent to Playa del Carmen and the Mexican Caribbean. As in previous years we will see the best directors, actors, and industry representatives converge here for a week of film related activity. Media and the general public are also invited to attend, and the free screenings make it easy for anyone to discover the very best in world cinema
