Top 25 Beaches: Coco Beach in Playa del Carmen

Coco Beach is one of the most stunning waterfront locations in the Riviera Maya. White-sand beaches offer gorgeous views and provide the perfect place to lay your beach blanket. Even the most experienced sunbather might need a break once in a while. The selection of beach clubs located in the area provide opportunity for shade and refreshment. Relax on a beach lounger and have drinks and snacks delivered directly to you while you enjoy the sunbeams.

Be Still at Coco Beach

Located in Playa del Carmen’s northern end, Coco Beach is a dreamy and quiet strip of land. It doesn’t get as much attention as its counterparts. It is located past 38th street, just where The Reef Coco Beach hotel stands. A block from 5th Avenue, this beach is easy to reach but still far away from the hustle and bustle. Blue ocean waters stretching out to the horizon sparkle in the sun. The ocean provides opportunity for refreshment to those on the beach. Swimming in the beautiful waters of the Caribbean Sea is an experience that everyone should take part in. You will dry off and be ready to go again in no time, thanks to the year-round warm weather in the region.

Perfect for Aquatic Activities

In addition to sunbathing, there is also a number of activities available to those visiting or residing in Coco Beach. Adventure-seeking people might be interested in parasailing. This is a recreational kiting activity that involves a person, tied to a boat, flying in the air behind with the use of a parachute. Only from there are you able to truly appreciate the stunning vistas of the area.

The Coco Beach neighborhood is also home to several dive shops. You can register for lessons or excursions with certified trainers and guides. Diving tours are possible not only in the ocean, but also in caves or cenotes throughout the Riviera Maya.

Once you have your fill of the beach, visitors to Coco Beach can wander up to Fifth Avenue for access to even more amenities. The neighborhood itself offers everything one might need. From convenience stores, restaurants and bakeries to art galleries, clothing stores and exercise studios, there is something for everyone.

Coco Beach: Recommendations

  • There are no bathrooms in the area, you will need to go to one of the local restaurants or bars in order to use their facilities.
  • If you decide to bring your own drinks and food, also bring a bag for your trash and make sure not to leave anything behind when you leave.

Do You Want to See More of Coco Beach? Community Gallery, Part II

A couple of weeks ago, Tom shared an introduction of Coco Beach, with a description of this beautiful and trendy new beachfront neighborhood just at the north end of downtown; of course, Coco Beach itself – i.e. the actual beachfront – is simply gorgeous!

This is one of my favorite communities in town – trendy and modern, yet relaxing and picturesque, happening and “hip,” yet quiet and residential.  Fifth Avenue and Playa’s main shopping and dining a very close – you can easily walk. It’s simply a place I love to go for a stroll, enjoy a coffee or a nice lunch, head to the beach and relax! Today I want to share another set of pictures.

Playa del Carmen Community Spotlight – Coco Beach

Playa del Carmen communitiesTrendy, yet still somewhat unknown, vibrant and “happening,” but still quiet and relaxing, modern and elegant, yet still natural; these are some of the words that could be used to describe the community known as Coco Beach in Playa del Carmen.

Playa del Carmen communitiesFor the past while, Bea and I have given a fair  bit of attention to Little Italy and the stretch of Fifth Avenue right in the heart of downtown.  Coco Beach is the next community moving northward along the beach; it is on the edge of the tourist area along Fifth Avenue, nestled between Fifth Avenue and the beach – not just any beach, but a beautiful sandy paradise that is accurately described as one of the top beaches in the Riviera Maya.

Playa del Carmen communitiesCoco Beach deserves some attention from anyone who loves Playa because it’s new and seems to be the most promising up-and-coming community; I’m guessing within five years or so the community will be lively like Little Italy, not to mention famous!

Playa del Carmen communitiesThe community is very new, and mostly residential.  There are a few restaurants, bars and pizza shops showing up as well.  As Fifth Avenue continues to grow, Coco Beach is becoming the next hotspot in the downtown area.  Two new hotels along the previously undeveloped area just north of Coco Beach have made its location very central in town.

Playa del Carmen communitiesMost importantly, it’s simply a nice place to walk around in or ride a bike through; personally, I like riding my bike to the community, and then getting off to just enjoy a walk; sometimes I head down to the beach, but other times it’s just a pleasant way to “pass through.”
