Fifth Avenue’s shops and restaurants are quickly expanding northward and have already reached the Coco Beach area. This is Playa del Carmen’s newest, hippest beachfront community.
Xcalacoco Beach – This area is just north of town – about 3 miles. It is currently seeing the development of condos, gated communities and upscale condo-resorts. It could likely be the next Playacar.
Puerto Morelos – This town still has a more local, small-town feel to it. There are both luxury condo developments as well as the original quaint homes directly overlooking the sand. While it is definitely quaint, it is also convenient since it is about 20 minutes away from both Playa del Carmen and Cancun, where the area’s main international airport is located.
