When buying real estate in Tulum, you have the same main choices of property type as anywhere else – Tulum land for sale, Tulum condos for sale and Tulum homes for sale, in that order of popularity. The following are some of the main features of each specifically in this area.
Land in Tulum – Land is by far the most popular choice for buyers in Tulum. Currently Tulum is a small town, but appears to be “next in line” for the tourism and real estate booms seen just north in Cancun, Cozumel and Playa del Carmen. A new international airport is also expected, and many investors feel the town will boom in the near future. Land is plentiful and very well priced. This means retirees and vacationers can find savings in having a home built in Tulum while still enjoying this warm-weather Caribbean lifestyle. With the expected growth, Tulum has developed a plan to retain its small-town character, and there is also very good potential for excellent appreciation. Tulum also offers some eco land developments where roads are made of local materials and homes will be off the grid.
Condos in Tulum – There are also a growing number of condo complexes showing up in the town center area as well as in the new developments. Condos in Tulum are also well priced and show potential for vacation rental income. The strongest appeal of condos, however, is for those who wish to enjoy Tulum’s small-town, natural lifestyle while not having to worry about maintenance of yard areas and other common spaces. Condos directly on the beachfront are still uncommon, but many are within biking distance and most are a walk away from the town center.
Homes in Tulum – Completed homes are less common since the town is still small, but they do exist, and some are very well designed with spacious yards. Most are in the town center area. Like with lots, there are eco-homes available which run on alternative power and include individual water treatment systems that run on a type of garden and help preserve the coral reef. The nearby village of Akumal also offers luxury homes directly on the beachfront.
Tulum is a very pleasant place to live and will continue to be so as it grows. Any buyer interested in investing in real estate here should explore a couple of property types with their agent.
