One of the first major decisions to make when you choose to buy real estate in Playa del Carmen is your property type - whether you will be buying Playa del Carmen condos for sale, Playa del Carmen homes for sale or Playa del Carmen land for sale.  While you may have your preference from the beginning, it’s worth considering the strengths and advantages of each type.

Playa del Carmen condos for sale

This is the most common real estate type in Playa del Carmen.  There is a wide variety of locations, including beachfront, downtown, gated communities, new developments, golf course developments and marina communities.  There is a variety of styles as well, including everything from small, neighborly complexes to large resort-style complexes with lots of on-site services.  All condo buildings in Playa del Carmen are low-rise.

Like in most places, the basic advantage of condos is the convenience of shared common areas and amenities.  Unlike most places, condo complexes in Playa del Carmen excel in outdoor pools, lounge areas and green spaces that can be enjoyed all year round.

Homes are the second most common choice.  While there are few homes directly on the beachfront, there are excellent options in golf communities, gated communities and in the downtown area.  Homes are usually the favorite for those who enjoy gardening or a more private and personalized yard.  For some people, an ideal balance between homes and condos is villas in a shared complex.

Mortgages and other financing options are available for homes and condos alike.

An option which is just beginning to gain some popularity is fixer-uppers in some older communities near the beach just outside of downtown, or even in some of the nicer communities.

Playa del Carmen land for sale

Since prices tend to be inflated around downtown, this is probably the most overlooked option.  Yet, if you know where to look, land remains a solid investment choice in Playa del Carmen offering savings and the appeal of having a personalized custom house built.

Places to look for land include new golf developments, a few gated communities just outside of downtown, and the same gentrifying communities where some people are buying fixer-uppers.
