When we think about downtown Playa del Carmen, we generally think of a submarket that’s very highly developed, upscale and … well, higher-priced. While this is true about some downtown neighborhoods, the existing core of downtown is geographically very small, and there are several surrounding neighborhoods which are currently undergoing a transformation something like gentrification, and are more downtown-ish. This means that you can find a low-priced Playa del Carmen property, but still enjoy all the benefits of downtown. The following are some of the features of this kind of property.
Walking Distance to the Beach - Since these neighborhoods are really a part of downtown, they are about a 15-20 minute walk away from some of Playa del Carmen’s most famous beaches, such as Shangri-la, Mamitas and the very wide beach downtown where the famous lighthouse landmark is. The beaches have soft, white sand and the Caribbean Sea’s bright turquoise is awe-inspiring.
Close to Fifth Avenue – Fifth Avenue is Playa del Carmen’s main tourism and shopping district; it is a pedestrian only street which runs parallel to the beach. With many shops, trees and benches, this street is not only fun, but also relaxing and comfortable. This will be even closer than the beach.
Near Shopping – In addition to Fifth Avenue, such neighborhoods would be about a 10 minute walk from supermarkets as well as possibly shopping plazas and local fruit, vegetable and fish markets. Just about any needed store or services (doctors’ clinics, stationary shops, etc.) would also be within walking distance.
A Handful of New Condos – Since these neighborhoods are just beginning to transform into nicer downtown areas, they are mostly small local homes. However, just because of the appeal they hold, there are already new condo complexes going in which are attractive for expat buyers.
Pool and Lounge Areas – You can expect to find nice complexes that are not only visually appealing with plenty of landscaped vegetation, but also comfortable lounge areas with pools. While the beach is just a walk away, it’s nice to have a nice option for relaxation right at home!
Low Prices – This is probably the most important feature; with all of these great lifestyle features, it’s important to know that you can really find prices that fit into your budget. Thanks to the fact that the neighborhoods are just beginning to catch on, there are prices available that are surprisingly low. It’s also worth considering that financing options exist.
When you begin your search for your Playa del Carmen property, remember that there are excellent, low-priced options out there for you.
