So you’ve already made two important decisions for this important stage of your life. One is that you would like to enjoy a Playa del Carmen retirement on some of the world’s most beautiful beaches; the other is that you would like a single home, as opposed to a condo or lot for building on. Now comes the fun part (it really is fun, if you’re working with the right people!) – choosing which home will be the best for your retirement lifestyle. The following are a few styles of locations to choose from in Playa del Carmen homes for sale and the surrounding area.
Downtown – While downtown is mostly condos, there are a few options in and near downtown in single homes. One of the nice parts about these for retirement is that they are within walking distance of everything – cafes, restaurants, shops (jewelry, tobacco, liquor, handicrafts, clothing, etc.) Services like Walmart, medical clinics and dental shops are also all within short walking range. Those interested in this kind of lifestyle my also consider Cozumel real estate in town.
Gated communities – Homes are much more common in Playa del Carmen’s beautiful, green gated communities. Single lot homes with large yards are the defining real estate type in some of the area’s nicest, most exclusive communities. Yet, the image and quality of the neighborhood does not mean that prices are what you’d imagine for this kind of location back home! A nice home in a gated community with a reasonable lot fits into an average budget nicely.
Golf course developments – There are a significant number of gated communities in the Playa del Carmen which include a professionally designed golf course; Playa del Carmen has been named the capital of Latin America’s golf culture. Many retirees enjoy golf as an enjoyable, active and challenging pastime. Even if you are not a golfer, these communities are very green and very beautiful!
Small villages – Homes are also available in a few very natural & local villages in the area, within about 45 minutes of Playa del Carmen. As a retiree you may enjoy the very quiet lifestyle of a place where everybody really does know your name!
Jungle/eco homes – Back from beach, there are a growing number of eco developments with very large lots and beautiful homes. These are ideal if you want to use retirement to get back into touch with nature.
