If you are looking for a Mexico home for sale on the Yucatan Peninsula, there are excellent options available for any budget and any lifestyle (unless, of course, you like snow.) Consider the following location options for homes in Yucatan real estate and the surrounding areas.
The colonial city of Merida is a favorite for this. There are pockets in the old city where a large number of Americans and Canadians have bought up the old colonials and renovated them to combine the best elements of classic Mexico and a modern lifestyle. Merida offers just about everything within walking distance – from cafes and art galleries to parks and restaurants.
Classic Fishing Villages
On all three shores of the Yucatan Peninsula, there are classic little fishing villages which have retained their original character while offering a modern lifestyle to expats. These towns are quiet and relaxed, and most of the residents don’t know the meaning of the word “rush” or “stress.” At first, it can be frustrating at times, but after a while, you’ll never want to go back!
The beaches in the Riviera Maya are a favorite for this. Besides the beautiful low-rise condos in the town center of Playa del Carmen, there are very nice single-lot homes overlooking the white sand of the beach and the turquoise water of the Caribbean. Places like Playacar and Puerto Aventuras are excellent options.
There are beautiful gated communities in just about all locations – in Merida, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and many of the communities between. The Yucatan Peninsula is already one of the safest areas within Mexico, not to mention safer than many parts of the U.S. Besides additional security, the gated entrance also reduces traffic making a home in one of these locations very quiet and relaxing.
Golf Course Homes
These are very similar to those in the gated communities, but they are within walking distance of golf, and often offer spectacular views of the beautifully landscaped fairways. The area surrounding Playa del Carmen (the Riviera Maya) has been named Latin America’s golf capital the large number of courses in the area, many of which are professionally designed.
Throughout the peninsula, usually in the downtown areas of the cities, there are older homes that are in need of a loving touch. The prices are often considerably lower, and the locations are usually very convenient, within walking distance to the beach, services, etc.
With these options, you are sure to find a style and location that will be the home of your dreams!
