How much do you know about living on the Yucatan Peninsula?  What about the Mexico real estate options on the Peninsula?  Did you know that there are several areas that are still virtually unknown which offer very quiet and very affordable lifestyle options?  Consider the two following examples, Costa Maya real estate and Campeche real estate.

Costa Maya

Costa Maya is the less known half of the Mexican Caribbean; up at the north Cancun is the thriving, hustling, bustling center of Latin America’s most important tourism region known as the Riviera Maya, which stretches south almost 100 miles past Playa del Carmen and Tulum to the huge nature reserve known as Sian Kaan. While the vast, untouched nature and the spectacular beaches may give the impression that this is the end of the known world, south of Sian Kaan is the area known as Costa Maya.

Much of Costa Maya remains undeveloped, and the area is a stretch of villages where traffic jams are usually defined by goats; no other car may even be in sight!  Beachfront condos and lots only one row back can be found for very low prices.  There is one main town – Mahahual – and a city about an hour and a half away.  Life is very, very relaxing.  The word “stress” doesn’t really figure into the local vocabulary.

Campeche

Moving straight across the Peninsula, the state of Campeche is also a quiet, almost undiscovered group of classic Mexican towns along a nice, quiet beachfront.  The main city (also called Campeche) is one of the best examples of well-preserved colonial cities, with the unique feature of being surrounded by old fort walls to protect against pirate raids.  Some expats are realizing the benefits of investing in quaint colonial homes for excellent prices here.

Moving south from the city of Campeche, there are some old colonial towns, fishing villages, and plenty of virgin beachfront where lots are surprisingly cheap.   What’s more, golf courses and a marina complex are just beginning to go in; this suggests that values could be rising sometime within the near future.  In any case, life is relaxing, quiet and completely free of stress and the hustle and bustle that we think is a normal part of life.

In both areas, the major airports of Merida and/or Cancun are not that far away.

Both of these areas are large and offer excellent options to start a life on the beachfront.  Prices are low, and life is very, very quiet.
