The shops and trendy part of Fifth Avenue are quickly expanding northward – directly towards these communities. New Gated Communities
There are fairly new gated communities near downtown or in the resort areas where land (in addition to completed homes in most cases) are available for good prices considering the quality of life and security provided; in many cases, they are also close to services like shopping malls or supermarkets. While some of these are a drive away from the beach (a short drive, mind you, of about 10 minutes or less) Playa del Carmen is a rapidly growing city, and what is not on the “edge” of the city will soon be well within the new, larger central area.
