Along Mexico’s Caribbean Coast (the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula) there are many locations which are real estate gems for American and Canadian buyers in their own way.  The following are a few examples of the variety to be found, some very well known, others quite “hidden.”

Beachfront Resort Paradise

Cancun condos for sale are probably the most popular real estate type for expats not only in this region, but in all of Latin America.  There is a good reason for this.  The beaches of the Mexican Caribbean with their fine white sand and bright turquoise water that’s always warm are some of the finest to be found on the planet.  Cancun’s high-rise condos offer amazing views, complete access to a modern lifestyle and surprisingly accessible prices.

A Taste of Europe

Just an hour down the road is the town of Playa del Carmen. With low-rise buildings, small city blocks and a walk-everywhere lifestyle, the town has more of a provincial feel to it; the atmosphere is completed by a European flavor added by the many Italians who have made the town their home.

Fixer-Uppers to Convert to Your Dream Home

A less well known side of both Cancun and Playa del Carmen are the areas of downtown that are close to the beach, a walk or bike ride away from all services, yet have hardly been noticed by international  visitors or buyers.  In some of these neighborhoods, expats can consider fixer-upper homes for excellent prices; often, because of location, investment potential is also very high.

A Caribbean Island with Mayan Charm

Cozumel real estate is very unique in that it is the only Caribbean Island that is also Mexican.  The island offers a combination of a jungle and beachfront paradise along with Mayan pyramids and a town with all basic services.

Nature’s Perfection

Tulum, 2 hours south of Cancun, is a very small town surrounded by nature, including many protected areas.  Ecology is a big theme in the area, and the beaches are considered some of the best in the world.

Off the Beaten Track

Another 2 hours south of Tulum is Costa Maya real estate, a strip of beachfront villages where you are more likely to have to stop for wildlife or livestock on the road than traffic.  Basic services are available, and prices are even lower.
