We all dream of the ideal retirement – a comfortable home on a beautiful beach, with a hammock swinging between two palm trees.  This retirement can, in fact, be more than just a dream; those who consider buying Cozumel real estate will find that they enjoy all the lures of this kind of “Caribbean Island” lifestyle along with all the benefits of a Mexico retirement within Latin America’s most thriving tourism region.

Cozumel is, in fact, a Caribbean Island.  It is Mexico’s only significantly sized island off the country’s Caribbean coast on the Yucatan Peninsula.  It offers all the natural charm and beauty that a retiree would expect from the Caribbean – lush, jungle, picturesque towns and a very, very relaxing lifestyle; people on Cozumel don’t worry about tomorrow, they just enjoy life as it comes – and they DO enjoy it!

Perhaps most important are the Caribbean beaches; Cozumel offers the soft white sand and bright turquoise water for which the Caribbean is famous.  Many people even consider the beaches to be the finest example of what the Caribbean offers.  Beautiful Mexico homes for sale can be found on or very near to these beaches.

Unlike the rest of the Caribbean, however, Cozumel blends all of this with the rich cultural heritage of the Mayan people.  There are Mayan pyramids on various locations throughout the island.  The modern day Maya continue to live on the island and are among the warmest most welcoming people to be found.  There ancient traditions are also carried out, for example, in the annual canoe crossing of the strait between Cozumel and Playa del Carmen, and the associated ancient rituals.

On the other hand, one of the most attractive benefits for Cozumel’s unique positioning is that it is within Latin America’s most important tourism region, defined by famous locations like Cancun and Playa del Carmen on the mainland.  Because of this factor, Cozumel offers retirees benefits like large international stores, modern shopping centers, professional golf and excellent, state-of-the-art hospitals.  Whatever cannot be found on the island itself can be found a 45 minute ferry ride away in Playa del Carmen, or another 1 hour drive to Cancun.

Good air connectivity is also one of these advantages; Cozumel has its own international airport with a variety of flights available to different parts of North America.  Cancun also offers one of the best connected international airports in Latin America, with very well-priced direct flights.

Cozumel is truly a retirement paradise, in all senses of the word!
