When Americans and Canadians first consider buying buying Playa del Carmen real estate, the easiest property type to imagine is condos; the locations they stay at on vacation are surrounded by beautiful condos - the downtown beachfront, the luxury resorts, etc. Condos are most certainly the prevalent real estate type in the area, and there are most certainly very good options. Yet, at the same time, although less noticeable “at a first glance,” there’s no reason to overlook Playa del Carmen homes for sale. Starting at the south end of the Riviera Maya, Akumal real estate is one of the few sub-markets that offers homes with spacious lots directly on the beachfront. While prices are high for the area, they are surprisingly low for luxury homes on some of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Homes directly on any U.S. beachfront could never be found for these prices – especially luxury homes. They also tend to hold high rental appeal, making them good investments.

Puerto Aventuras is a unique upscale, gated community in that is more like a village in itself. It is focused on 3 very nice marinas, surrounded by condos and luxury homes. There are also many, many beautiful homes on the tree-lined residential streets. Nice golf course homes on spacious natural lots are also available. The community includes restaurants and shops, as well as a small mall, a very good school and even a church.
Playacar is the “Beverly Hills” of Playa del Carmen. It is divided into two “Phases.” Phase 1 is on the beachfront offering beautiful homes and villas steps away from the sand. Phase 2 is centered on one of the area’s most prestigious golf courses and likewise offers beautiful homes and villas in complexes, many of which are within walking or very comfortable biking distance of both the beach and downtown.
This newer gated community is nestled in the area’s prestigious “Diamond Zone” but offers properties at surprisingly low prices. Some completed homes and villas are already available, and there are also spacious lots. The community has plans for an exclusive beach club for residents; the beach is about half a mile away. The setting is very natural and upscale.
While homes for sale may not be the property type most visible when Americans and Canadians arrive in the Riviera Maya, there are a number of excellent locations to consider!
