When you decide that Mexico retirement is the thing for you, the most important part is that you will be enjoying a warm-weather lifestyle with modern services and save money at the same time! However, there are some important points in planning that you will want to begin thinking about, including the following.
Real Estate
One of the most important items you will want to begin arranging early is a place to live. Most retirees find it attractive to buy Mexico real estate and own their own property; this means you have one search process and own your dream property in paradise! There are many excellent properties - Mexico beachfront for sale, golf course homes, ecological lots, just to name a few - which retirees find attractive for their new warm-weather lifestyle.
Healthcare and Insurance
Healthcare is always an important point for retirees; the good news is that Mexico offers excellent healthcare at affordable prices. When you arrive, if not before, you will want to begin researching nearby hospitals; if you are going to buy a home or condo, you may want to take the proximity of a good hospital into consideration. There are also good health insurance plans available for just about any budget.
Insurance for automobiles, boats and a rental property (if you are going to rent out the property you own) are also worth investigating.
Transportation
Will you be living in a walk-everywhere community, or out in a gated community where you need to drive for most items? In both cases, official, well-maintained taxis in Mexico tend to be very affordable. You can also investigate the possibility of bringing your own car or buying one directly in Mexico. Direct flights to and from Mexico's main tourist destinations are available frequently and for very good prices. Buses to nearby towns are also modern, comfortable and affordable.
Residency
If you are staying in Mexico for periods of less than 6 months, you will not need any special permit, other than what they give you at customs when you come in. If you plan to stay for longer periods or permanently, or if you want to own a car or open a hobby business, for example, you will need residency papers. Experienced lawyers can guide people through this process fairly easily. You don't need residency to own real estate.
Banking
International transfers and even withdrawals from ATMs can make access to your funds easy and relatively affordable.
