Have you ever imagined what it would be like to live only a walk away from one of Playa del Carmen’s top beaches (which also means one of the nicest beaches in the world!)  I recently visited Awa Condos - a new development just north of town – and actually put this imagination into reality.

To get there, I drove my car, putting the bike up on the bike rack.  Of course, those who live at Awa won’t have to do this part.  Arriving at the gated entrance of El Cielo (the community in which Awa is located), I talked to the security guard and showed him my I.D.; they’re very careful about who comes and goes – excellent for safety!

Parking outside of the construction site, I got my bike down.  The construction itself is coming along nicely.  The concrete structures are complete, and workers are now beginning with installations and utilities. It’s exciting to see how quickly things are coming along.

From there I got on my bike.  I decided there was no point to just gunning it down to the beach – in such a beautiful community, I might as well enjoy the ride a little.  I got on the bike trail (right beside where I parked, directly across from Awa) and off I went.   The nice thing about El Cielo (and Playa as the whole) is that there are no hills whatsoever – all smooth sailing for bike riders! I took an easy ride throughout the community checking out the beautiful new homes and upscale condos.  There’s lots of green space, trees and nature as well.

Finally, I looped back around to the south entrance to El Cielo, checked with security, and headed down the beach road.  Currently, it’s still lined by jungle on both sides. Pretty short ride, though; the loop around El Cielo was definitely longer.

Arriving at the beach, I parked my bike, took off my sandals and walked down onto the soft, white sand.  There’s still plenty of jungle all around, but now there are also several new upscale resorts.  In any case, it’s a beautiful place just to relax in the sun.  And to imagine, pretty soon they’re going to have an upscale beach club here for residents of El Cielo (including Awa!)

I think I could definitely handle living here.  I love biking and I love beaches.  Doesn’t get much better than this!
