When you decide to buy Mexico real estate, chances are you will be completing the first part of the search – or even most of the search – from home, online.  This most certainly true of Cancun real estate where many people buy vacation properties or retirement properties for winter use only.  If you find yourself in this situation, the following resources will be indispensable in making the search more efficient and effective.

Online Cancun MLS Listings

One of the first steps you will want to take is to find good online listings.  While the final steps of identifying the right property for yourself will involve an in depth interaction with your agent, this step will allow you to get to know the market, start looking for the type of property most appealing to you and to evaluate prices.

Videos, Galleries, Descriptions

Online, there are many resources that help to get ready for life in Cacnun.  Many may be sites that are geared towards tourists, but others towards expats who already life there.  There are videos, picture galleries and descriptions of events and activities; for example, you can find out about Cancun’s underwater museum, or about beachfront jazz festivals.

Blogs

Both individuals and organizations based in Cancun keep blogs that cover topics including everything from personal experiences to analyses of the tourism and real estate markets.  Reading blogs is an excellent way to get to know Cancun better and even find good real estate opportunities.

Google Street View

When you are searching for properties Google Street View is a good tool to give yourself virtual, self-guided tours of many parts of Cancun.  Street View is a function on Google Maps which allows you to choose any point on a street and take a “virtual walk” through the neighborhood.  Most of Cancun is currently available on this system.

The Right Agent

Your final and most important resource will be the right real estate agent.  Describing your budget and the properties which you find attractive to this agent, they should be able to find further property suggestions and develop a dossier of good options that you can view when you actually visit Cancun in person.

Buying real estate in Cancun is an exciting event; it is to your benefit to make the best use of all resources available to start your search off on the right foot.  Be sure to use these and other online tools!
